Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability to compose and read syllables in group B children at Aisyiyah 17 Kindergarten, Surabaya. This can be seen when children are asked to do the activity of composing syllables into a word, the children are not yet able to do it themselves. This study aims to determine how natural material loose parts media can improve reading skills in group B children at Aisyiyah 17 Kindergarten, Surabaya. This study uses a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design with the Kemmis and McTaggart model which is implemented in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 15 children of Group B TKAisyiyah 17 Surabaya. Data collection techniques used observation, documentation, and field notes. Data analysis was carried out descriptively qualitatively and quantitatively with a success indicator of at least 75% of children reaching the category of Developing According to Expectations (BSH) or Developing Very Well (BSB). The results of the study indicate that the use of natural material loose parts media can improve children's reading skills. In addition, children's reading ability experienced a significant increase from pre-action to cycle I and cycle II, until reaching completion above 80%. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of natural material loose parts media can improve reading ability in Group B children at Aisyiyah 17 Kindergarten Surabaya.
