Abstract
This study discusses the speech situation of using danseigo in the anime Haikyuu season
1, episode 2. Which tells about a group of high school teenagers who are members of the
Karasuno High School men's volleyball team. In their daily life they tend to use greeting
words which are part of the variety of male languages in various speech situations. This
study focuses on the speech situation in terms of intimacy and age of the interlocutor. The
method used in this study to reveal the use of danseigo in the dialogue between the
characters is a qualitative descriptive method. The result of this research is that the
characters use danseigo in informal situations and tend to have no barriers between the
speaker and the interlocutor. In further research, it would be better to compare it with the
variety of women's languages (Joseigo).
