Abstrak

This research examines indirect imperative speech acts as represented in the manga Kimetsu no Yaiba, episodes 7 and 8, authored by Koyoharu Gotouge. Employing a qualitative descriptive methodology grounded in pragmatic analysis, the research seeks to elucidate the structural forms and communicative functions of indirect imperatives. The classification of forms is informed by the theoretical frameworks of Wijana, Chaer, and Rahadi, whereas the analysis of functions adopts Kashiwazaki’s model based on the profit–loss and choice scales. The data were obtained through systematic observation and note-taking of character dialogues, subsequently categorized according to their pragmatic features. The findings indicate a total of 31 occurrences of indirect imperative speech acts, comprising 22 declarative and 9 interrogative forms, with declaratives emerging as the predominant type. Functionally, three principal categories were identified—requests, advice or recommendations, and commands—with commands being the most frequently employed. Overall, the results contribute to a deeper understanding of the pragmatic realization of indirect imperative expressions within the discourse of Japanese manga.
