Abstract

In terms of communicating human beings can not be separated from speech and actions to be understood by
others. Speech and speech are closely related to one of the branches of linguistics, namely pragmatic.
Pragmatic is a science that learns about the relationship between the forms of language and its use. One of the
objects of study in pragmatic science is the act of speech. As the name of the object of the study, the act of
speech examines the actions and speeches performed by humans. Speech action consists of 3 types, namely
lokusi, ilokusi, and perlokusi. Of the three types, ilokusi is the most important type because behind the speech
there is a message that wants to be conveyed indirectly by the speaker. The act of speech is classified into 5
types, namely asertif, directive, commissionive, expressive, and declarative. Asertive speech is an act believed
by the speaker. The object studied in this study was the play "Dantons Tod" written by Georg Büchner in
1835. The drama tells the story of the French revolution against king Louis XVI. This type of research is
qualitative with descriptive methods. The data taken from the data source in this study is in the form of
speech or dialogue that is asertive. The founded data in this source is 12 that has collected with reading
techniques and record techniques. The collected data is analyzed with three valves, namely data reduction,
data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Based on the analysis of dantons tod plays, six functions were
found, namely vermuten (suspect), sagen (stated), schwören (swearing), sich beschweren (complaining),
entgegnen (refuting), and beantworten (answering). Each function of asertive speech has 2 datas, so totally the
function of asertive speech is 12 datas.
