DEIKSIS DALAM CERITA PENDEK KARYA WOLFGANG BORCHERT

Abstract

Language provides ease in interacting and communicating verbally and in writing. Deixis is
indispensable in the use of language because it identifies a meaning contained in the language and is
only known when it is already in the context of a language event or situation. The purpose of this study
was to describe the persona, spatial and temporal deixis in 3 short stories by Wolfgang Borchert. The
research method used is qualitative with Yule's deixis theory. The results show that in the 3 short
stories by Wolfgang Borchert, there were 3 types of personal deixis, namely the first, second, and third
persons. Meanwhile, the results of the study on spatial deixis showed that there were 2 types of deixis
found, namely hier and da. Then, in the study of temporal deixis, 2 types of deixis were found, namely
jetzt and nächsten Abend. All types of deixis have different meanings, depending on the speaker's point
of view and the context in which they occur.
