Abstract

Discourse is a construction in text. In order for the discourse to be understood by the reader, it is necessary to apply the right cohesion. It is very interesting for researchers to examine cohesion markers in magazine. The cohesion marker studied in this study is the reference. Reference is the relationship between the elements in the text and the thing it refers to. This study has the aim of describing and knowing the types and forms of referentials used by NADI magazine. The kind of study is qualitative research with descriptive analysis method. The resource of data in this study was obtained from NADI magazine volume 28 of 2021 with the theme Digitalisierung in Im Fokus section. Then the data analyzed is in the form of sentences containing reference cohesion markers. Data collection techniques used reading and note-taking techniques. After that, the researcher used the agih method to examine the data with the theory of Halliday and Hasan (1976). According to research that has been done, it was found the use of personal reference, demonstrative reference, comparative reference, anaphoric reference, cataphoric reference and endophoric reference sentences in NADI magazine volume 28 of 2021. The number of reference cohesion markers found are 75 references which include 45 personal references, 21 demonstrative references, 9 comparative references. From the 75 reference cohesion markers, there are 70 anaphoric references and 5 cataphoric references. Referential forms found include unserer, er, ihr, ihre, ihrer, ihren, ihnen, sie, die, das, diese, dieses, dieser, diesem, andererseits, vergleich, besser, mehr, gleich, and anderes. The results of the analysis of this study answer the formulation of the problem that has been mentioned, which can be concluded that the article in NADI magazine volume 28 of 2021 contains a type of reference grammatical cohesion.
