ELIPSIS DALAM CERPEN-CERPEN KARYA WOLFGANG BORCHERT

Abstract

Literary works are closely related to language, and in language activities the use of ellipsis is very important. Borchert is an author who makes ellipsis as a characteristic of his works. The use of ellipsis in Borchert's short stories attracted the attention of researchers to conduct research on ellipsis. Therefore, this study aims to find out the form and function of the ellipsis contained in the short story by Wolfgang Borchert. The short stories that are used as objects and sources of data in this research are “Die Küchenuhr”, “Das Brot”, and “Die Kirschen”. This research was conducted with a qualitative descriptive method. The analyzed data was collected using the insertion technique. In this study, 35 ellipsis sentences were found which were divided into 3 types. There are 7 ellipsis of Sprechhandlungsellipse (speech act ellipsis), 21 Adjazenzellipse (proximity ellipsis), and 7 data including Koordinationsellipse (coordination ellipsis). In this study, the researchers found 4 functions of the ellipsis, namely highlighting the meaning that Borchert wants to convey in the short story, sentence effectiveness, expressive and assertive functions.
