MAKNA KONOTASI BULAN, BINTANG DAN MATAHARI DALAM PUISI-PUISI KARYA HERMANN HESSE

Abstract

Poetry has short words because there is an implicit meaning, so the meaning of a meaning really needs to be analysis in order to find the message behind the word. Hermann Hesse is a poet who writes on the theme of the individual's efforts to get out of a comfortable life and seek self-identity and belief. His writing, which always uses symbols, has attracted the attention of researchers to examine Hesse's poems regarding the meaning used. On this basis, purpose of this study is to describe the connotative and denotative meanings of the words moon, star, and sun using Roland Barthes's method in Hermann Hesse's poems from a book entitled "Wege Nach Innen" because these 3 words often appear in books. This study
used descriptive qualitative method. Based on the analysis of Hesse's poems, 18 data were found with details: 5 words moon, 6 words stars, and 7 suns. Various kinds of connotative meanings are found in Hesse's poems, one of which is the word moon which means as an inspiration for a work, as a tool to provide illumination, as a rotation of day, the word star which has meaning. as a belief, as a saint, a prayer and the word sun which has a meaning as a substitute for god, as god himself and freedom.
