Abstract

This study aims to describe the intonation patterns and accent forms of interrogative sentences in Edeka advertisements which are analyzed using Duden Grammatical theory 4. Intonation plays an important role in verbal advertisements because the resulting tone becomes an intermediary to convey the meaning of words or sentences to the recipient of the message which is the background of this research.  The research method used is descriptive qualitative with note-taking method. The research data used are verbal texts of interrogative sentences in German in Edeka advertisements obtained through YouTube. The data was analyzed through 4 stages, namely data collection, data classification, data description, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study concluded that verbal texts of interrogative sentences in German have various intonation patterns, namely LHH, LLH, LHLL, LHLHLH, and LHLLHH. Furthermore, the intonation pattern is analyzed more deeply to classify it into the accent form of interrogative sentences. As a result, data was found that classified mit fallendem Akzent (H*L), Hochakzent (H*), mit steigendem Akzent (L*H), and Tiefakzent (L*) fragments
