MEKANISME PERTAHANAN DIRI TOKOH UTAMA DALAM NASKAH “MUTTER COURAGE UND IHRE KINDER” KARYA BERTOLT BRECHT

Abstract

This study aims to describe the self-defense mechanisms performed by the main character in the script "Mutter Courage und Ihre Kinder". This research is a qualitative research with content analysis method. The data source of this research is the play "Mutter Courage und Ihre Kinder: Eine Chronik aus dem Dreiβigjährigen Krieg" published by Suhrkamp Verlag. The data of this research are descriptive data in the form of phrases, words, clauses or sentences that show the personality of the main character in the play Mutter Courage und Ihre Kinder by Bertolt Brecht. The data is analyzed through 5 stages, which are reading the script, identifying data, classifying data, describing data, and concluding the results of data analysis. The results of this study conclude that the self-defense mechanisms used by the main character are repression 2 times, displacement 3 times, projection 1 time, aggression reaction 5 times, isolation 1 time, and denial 1 time.
