Abstract

Ecranisation is the process of transforming a written literary work into a film, where the process consists of shrinking, adding, and varying changes that occur in the intrinsic elements. Research is needed to find out the shrinkage, addition, and varied changes that occur in the transfer of written literary works into a film. Therefore, this study aims to describe the ecranisation found in the fairy tale Rapunzel by Brüder Grimm and the film Rapunzel by Bodo Fürneisen. This research is a qualitative with descriptive analysis with data sources of quoted sentences of the fairy tale Rapunzel by Brüder Grimm and dialogue that has been transcribed in written form as well as footage of scenes in the film Rapunzel by Bodo Fürneisen. This research uses Nurgiyantoro's (2007) theory to identify the intrinsic elements to be researched, which are characterisation, plot, and setting. Meanwhile, Eneste's (1991) theory is used to identify the ecranisation that occurs in the transfer of fairy tales into film form. The results of this study concluded that there was 1 data of shrinkage, 30 data of addition, and 17 data of varied changes.
