Abstract
This study aims to describe the thypes of social conflict experienced by the character Michael Berg in the novel Der Vorleser using Ralf Darhendorf’s conflict theory. The focus on the analysis lies in the classification of social conflict types experienced by the main character based on authority relations and social structure. This research employs a desccriptive qualitative approach, with data collection conducted through a reading and note taking technique. The analysis is carried out through an in a depth reading novel’s content that despicts social conflict, wiche is then classified according to the types of conflict,
namely role conflict in Ralf Darhendorf’s theory. The result show that the character Michael berg experiences several types of social conflic, namely role conflict, intergroup conflict, organized versus unorganize conflict, and conflict between national units. These conflict illustrate the tension between individual interest and structural pressures within post World War 11 German society. The social experienced by the main character are not only personal in nature, but also reflect power relations, authority, and social dynamics that shape Michael Berg’s attitudes and character development.
