Abstract

Abstract

Green synthesis of TiO₂ using Aloe vera extract is an environmentally friendly approach that produces nanoparticles with small sizes, high porosity, and well-defined anatase crystallinity. This review article discusses various studies on the synthesis of TiO₂–Aloe vera, material characterization, and its application as a photoanode in DyeSensitized Solar Cells (DSSC). Comparative analysis shows that different synthesis methods such as solvothermal, solgel, hydrothermal, and direct biosynthesis—significantly influence particle size, band gap, and DSSC efficiency. The solvothermal method provides the best performance, followed by sol-gel and hydrothermal methods, while biosynthesis still offers notable improvements despite its limited morphological control. Overall, TiO₂–Aloe vera composites enhance dye adsorption, suppress electron recombination, and improve the photovoltaic parameters of DSSC. This review highlights the potential of TiO₂–Aloe vera as a low-cost and eco-friendly photoanode material, while emphasizing the need for further optimization to improve its stability and performance consistency.
