Abstract

Abstract

Seismic noise plays an important role in determining the reliability of monitoring data, at Mount Tangkuban Parahu which is dominated by low-frequency earthquakes with small energy, causing the main signal to be prone to being obscured by background noise. Differences in the characteristics of short-period and broadband sensors can affect the recorded spectral response. This research aims to analyze the level of seismic noise and characterize the response of two station types, RTU0 (short-period Sercel L4C) and SUCI (broadband Guralp CMG-40T), based on data from January to August 2025. The analysis was carried out using Power Spectral Density (PSD) and compared with the noise models New Low Noise Model (NLNM) and New High Noise Model (NHNM). The results show that the noise level at both stations ranges from -80 dB to -140 dB and is mostly distributed between the NLNM and NHNM curves. In the short period (0.01–1 second), there was an increase in PSD from June to August, indicating the dominance of high-frequency components. In the microseismic period (1–10 seconds), both stations show a stable pattern with low to moderate energy. The most significant difference appears in the long period (10–100 seconds), where the broadband sensor shows a more stable and representative response to low frequencies compared to the short-period sensor, which has limited sensitivity in that range. These findings confirm that the analysis of seismic noise levels at short-period and broadband stations is influenced not only by seismic noise, but also by the sensor used, thereby playing an important role in determining the reliability and representativeness of the seismic signal data recorded in the Mount Tangkuban Parahu area.
