Abstract

Vocational education in Indonesia, particularly at the secondary level (SMK), requires learning strategies that emphasize practical skills development to ensure graduates are well-prepared for the workforce. One such strategy is the implementation of a block system, which organizes instructional time into fewer but longer sessions, especially for practical subjects. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the block system in the Mechanical Engineering Department at SMK Yayasan Pendidikan dan Sosial Ma’arif 1 Taman using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, and Product) evaluation model. The evaluation is crucial, considering the system has been in place since 2023 but lacks formal assessment regarding its effectiveness. This research employs a quantitative descriptive approach with evaluative methods. Data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to 42 students of class XII T.Pm 6 and documentation of final examination scores from the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics processed with SPSS. The results show that the Context component scored 73%, Input 77%, Process 77%, and Product 75%, with an overall average of 75.5%, indicating a “good” implementation level. Furthermore, students’ average learning outcomes from lathe and milling subjects reached 83.79%, also classified as “good.” These findings suggest that the block system enhances the effectiveness of practical learning by providing sufficient time allocation, improved instructional focus, and better student engagement. This study recommends ongoing evaluation to ensure continuous improvement of the block learning system as a viable instructional model in vocational education.
