Abstract

Abstract
This study aims to develop an assessment instrument based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)
in the Basic Work of Mechanical Engineering (PDTM) subject, specifically the material on measuring
instruments for grade X students of SMKN 1 Driyorejo. The background of this study is the dominance
of evaluation questions oriented towards Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS), so that students are not
trained to think critically, analytically, and creatively. The type of research used is Research and
Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model. The research subjects were 37 students. The instruments
developed were multiple-choice and essay-based HOTS questions arranged according to the learning
outcomes of the Independent Curriculum. The results of the study indicate that the developed HOTS-
based assessment instrument is declared feasible to very feasible based on the results of validation by
material experts, language experts, and student response questionnaires. The results of the item validity
test indicate that the questions are valid, while the reliability test produces a coefficient of r₁₁ = 0,750
which is included in the reliable category. Student responses to the HOTS-based assessment instrument
were very positive with a percentage of 82.56%. However, the results of student learning completion
showed that out of 37 students, only 17 students (45.95%) completed the KKM (≥ 75), while 20 students
(54.05%) did not complete it.
