Abstract

Diesel engine practical learning in the Mechanical Engineering Education Study Program requires students to have critical thinking skills and a good understanding of concepts. However, the jobsheets used in the Diesel Engine Laboratory of Surabaya State University are still oriented to the C3 cognitive level (application) and have not yet encouraged analytical and evaluation skills. This study aims to develop an inquiry-based Jobsheet that is suitable for use in diesel engine practical learning to improve students' critical thinking skills. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the PPE (Planning, Production, and Evaluation) development model which includes the stages of needs analysis, design, production, and evaluation. Product validation was carried out by material experts and media experts, and implementation tests were carried out through student responses. Data collection techniques used observation, validation sheets, and questionnaires, while data analysis was carried out descriptively with the Many Facets Rasch Measurement (MFRM) approach. The results of the study showed that the developed inquiry-based Jobsheet was declared very suitable for use, with a validity level of 90% from media experts and 87.5% from material experts. Student responses to the Jobsheet showed a percentage of 86% with a very good category. Thus, this inquiry-based Jobsheet is suitable for use as a practical learning tool for diesel engines to support the development of students' critical thinking skills.
