Abstract

Advances in electric vehicle technology require adjustments to the competencies of Vocational High School (SMK) curricula, particularly in Motorcycle Engineering (TSM). This study aims to examine the effect of implementing the Discovery Learning model assisted by a Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) Electric Bicycle Electrical Trainer Board on student learning outcomes at SMK Negeri 1 Suruh. The research employed a quantitative quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population consisted of 11th-grade TSM students, with two classes selected through purposive sampling: one experimental class using the BLDC Trainer Board with Discovery Learning, and one control class using conventional instruction. Data were collected using pretest and posttest cognitive tests, as well as observation sheets to assess instructional implementation and student activity. Data analysis was conducted using the Independent Samples t-test and Normalized Gain (N-Gain). The results showed that teacher implementation reached 93.75% (Very Good) and student activity reached 89.58% (Very Active). The hypothesis test indicated a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), demonstrating a significant positive effect of the treatment on student learning outcomes. The experimental class achieved a high N-Gain score of 0.71, compared to 0.34 in the control class (moderate category). These findings indicate that the integration of Discovery Learning with a BLDC Trainer Board is effective in improving students’ conceptual understanding and troubleshooting skills in electrical systems.
