Abstract

The phenomenon of students engaging in part-time work is increasingly found among students of the Mechanical Engineering Education Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Surabaya. This condition requires students to manage their time effectively to balance academic responsibilities and work demands. This study aimed to analyze the time management of part-time working students and its implications for academic performance. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving seven informants selected through snowball sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and documentation and analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model, with source and technique triangulation used to ensure data validity. The findings revealed that students engaged in part-time work due to economic factors, the desire for independence, and the intention to gain work experience. Time management was carried out through planning, priority setting, and time control by placing academic activities as the primary priority. The strategies implemented included utilizing spare time, reducing working hours, and choosing flexible jobs. Although students experienced schedule conflicts and physical fatigue, they were able to maintain their academic performance through adaptive time management. Therefore, time management plays an important role in maintaining a balance between academic demands and part-time work.
