Abstract
Literacy reading and writing is the most basic literacy. As a student, every student must have good literacy skills. It is not enough just to be able to read and write, but also to be able to understand the meaning of reading and arrange the text into good writing. According to data from the Ministry of Education and Culture, the national average literacy index is still in the low category. These problems then made this research conducted. Based on Emile Durkheim's theory of social solidarity and Daniel Lerner's modernization theory, it is found that there are social factors that affect students' literacy. These social factors include the intensity of parental involvement, the intensity of socialization, the intensity of reinforcement, and the intensity of the use of mass media. This research is then used to prove whether these social factors really affect the
literacy level of the students of Mts Salafiyah Kerek. Using quantitative associative research methods with regression analysis techniques. It was found that simultaneously or simultaneously these social factors affected students' literacy by 36%. If independently between these social factors, the intensity of parental involvement, the intensity of socialization and the intensity of the use of mass media have a positive and significant influence on students' literacy. Meanwhile, the intensity of reinforcement was declared to have no effect on the literacy of the students of Mts Salafiyah Kerek.
