About the Journal
Paradigma: Jurnal Sosiologi Indonesia is a peer-reviewed academic journal devoted to advancing rigorous and theoretically informed sociological scholarship. The journal serves as a platform for critical and empirically grounded analyses of social life, with particular attention to the complexities of social transformation, inequality, institutional change, and cultural dynamics in Indonesia and the broader Global South.
Positioned as a core sociology journal, Paradigma prioritizes contributions that demonstrate conceptual clarity, theoretical engagement, and methodological robustness. The journal encourages authors to move beyond descriptive accounts and offer analytical insights that refine sociological concepts, interrogate structures of power, and illuminate the processes shaping contemporary societies. While firmly grounded in Indonesian social realities, Paradigma seeks to contribute to global sociological debates by positioning local experiences as sources of theoretical development rather than merely empirical illustration.
The journal welcomes original research articles, theoretical essays, and critical reviews that engage with, but are not limited to, the following areas:
-
Sociological theory and conceptual development, including dialogue between classical traditions and contemporary perspectives, as well as the refinement of key sociological categories such as structure, agency, power, social reproduction, and resistance.
-
Social transformation and institutional dynamics, covering changes in family, religion, education, labor, economy, governance, and other social institutions, alongside issues of stratification, class formation, gender relations, and inequality.
-
Indonesia and Global South perspectives, emphasizing contextually grounded research that critically engages with globalization, development, postcolonial conditions, and capitalist restructuring, while contributing to broader comparative discussions.
-
Public policy and social justice, including sociological analyses of governance, regulation, marginalization, exclusion, and social vulnerability, with attention to the implications of research for public debate and policy.
-
Methodological innovation in sociology, embracing qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods; ethnographic and participatory approaches; and emerging research tools suited to digital, transnational, and rapidly transforming social environments.
As an open-access journal, Paradigma is committed to broad knowledge dissemination and inclusive scholarly exchange. By integrating theoretical advancement with strong empirical engagement, the journal aims to strengthen sociology’s intellectual contribution both within Indonesia and in the wider international academic community.
