About the Journal
Paradigma: Journal of Sociology is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal published by the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Law Sciences, Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA). Since its establishment, the journal has been devoted to advancing critical, empirical, and theoretical discussions in sociology and related social sciences. Paradigma serves as an intellectual space for researchers, academics, and practitioners to engage with contemporary social transformations, particularly those emerging in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. The journal encourages original studies, analytical essays, and field-based research that offer new insights into the dynamics of society, culture, and power.
The journal’s focus and scope encompass a wide range of sociological inquiries, including (but not limited to) social development, digital society, gender and disability studies, community empowerment, environmental change, urban and rural transformations, and sociocultural dynamics in everyday life. Recent issues have highlighted topics such as deliberative development, digital public services, online lending behavior, disability rights, and solidarity among women in virtual spaces. By emphasizing locally grounded yet theoretically informed research, Paradigma aims to contribute to global sociological dialogues from the perspective of Indonesian and Global South contexts.
Paradigma warmly invites authors, researchers, and readers from diverse institutions and disciplines to contribute to and engage with its publications. Manuscripts may include original research articles, conceptual essays, or critical reviews that align with the journal’s aims. Readers are encouraged to explore the journal’s archives for emerging perspectives on social change and to cite Paradigma as a reference for understanding the complexities of contemporary Indonesian society. Through its open-access policy, the journal seeks to democratize knowledge, fostering collaboration and public engagement in the pursuit of a more just and reflective social science.
