Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pre eksperimental yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan keterlaksanaan model pembelajaran Problem Based Instruction (PBI), keterampilan penyelesaian masalah siswa, penguasaan materi, dan respon siswa setelah mengikuti pembelajaran yang menerapkan model PBI. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah “Pretest and Postest Group” dengan sasaran penelitian yaitu siswa kelas VII-2 SMP Negeri 3 Sidoarjo tahun ajaran 2012-2013. Pelaksanaan penelitian dilakukan dalam dua kali pertemuan, siswa diberikan pretest di awal dan postest di akhir proses pembelajaran untuk mengukur keterampilan penyelesaian masalah sekaligus pengusaan materi siswa. Hasil penelitian dan analisis data, menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran Problem Based Instruction (PBI) pada tema pencemaran air telah terlaksana cukup baik dengan skor rata-rata setiap aspek sebesar 3,3. Keterampilan penyelesaian masalah siswa diukur menggunakan indikator keterampilan penyelesaian masalah IDEAL. Dari hasil pretest dan posttest diperoleh N-gain sebesar 0,31 dengan kategori sedang. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan Problem Based Instruction (PBI) pada tema pencemaran air dapat melatih keterampilan penyelesaian masalah siswa. Adapun penguasaan materi siswa menunjukkan rerata individu 84,00 dan ketuntasan klasikal 80%. Siswa juga menunjukkan respon positif terhadap pembelajaran yang telah dilakukan.

Abstract

This research is pre experimental research aims to the realization of Problem Based Instruction (PBI) model, problem solving skills of students, mastery of the material, and the student response after learning that applying the PBI model. The research design used was “Pretest and Postest Group“ with targeted research that is grade VII-2 SMPN 3 Sidoarjo academic year 2012-2013. Implementation of the research is conducted in two sessions, students are given a pretest at beginning and postest in the end of the learning process to measure problem solving skills as well as mastery material. The results of research and data analysis, knowing that the learning Problem Based Instruction (PBI) on the theme of water pollution has done fairly well with an average score of every aspect of 3,3. Problem solving skills of student is measured using indicators of IDEAL problem solving skills. From the result pretest and posttest be expected N-gain 0,31 with moderat category. This shows that the application of problem Based Instruction (PBI) on the theme of water pollution can train the skills of problems solving of students. As for the mastery of the material students showed average individual 84,00 and classical completeness 80%. Students also showed a positive response to the learning that has been done.
