Abstract

Indonesia is an agricultural country with rice as the main product. Rice husk is an abundant byproduct of rice milling. Rice husk ash can be used as a mixture of cement after being controlled in a high temperature (500-600C) and will produce silica ash. Paving block is one of the pavement material for the type of block pavement that can be considered for use from technical and economic aspects. This research was conducted to determine the effect of the use of rice husk ash as cement addition to the quality of paving blocks.

The proportion of the mixture used was the addition of rice husk ash of 1%; 1.5%; 2%; 2.5%; and 3% by weight of cement to compare the quality of paving by testing based on SNI 03-0619-1996. Compressive strength, wear resistence, and also water adsorption are the test that carried out in this study.

Compressive strength test for the proportion of 0% addition of rice husk ash is 9.51 MPa, while the percentage is 1%; 1.5%; 2%; 2.5% and 3% additions respectively are 9,60 MPa, 9,71 MPa, 9.91 MPa, 10.39 MPa and 8.81 MPa. Water absorption test for the proportion of 0% addition of rice husk ash is 6,31%, while the percentage is 1%; 1.5%; 2%; 2.5% and 3% additions in a row namely 6,04%, 5.95%, 5.89%, 5.67% and 6,34%. The wear resistance test for the proportion of 0% addition of rice husk ash is 0.0313 mm / min, while the percentage is 1%; 1.5%; 2%; 2.5% and 3% additions respectively were 0.225 mm / min, 0.218 mm / min, 0.197 mm / min, 0.191 mm / min and 0.168 mm / min. Rice husk ash with the addition of 2.5% by weight of cement can be recommended as a cement mixture material to improve the quality of paving blocks based on compressive strength and water absorption tests.
