Rang Karang Dance is a dance work that represents the work ethic and persistence of coastal women in Klatakan village in the activity of finding shells. This social phenomenon is brought into a dramatic dance work that visualizes a series of moving scenes from the daily activities of the Situbondo people, especially the village of Klatakan. The creation method used in this work refers to the construction method by Jacqueline Smith, which includes the stages of exploration, improvisation, and composition formation. This work applies the concept of environmental choreography, where the performance is staged directly in the natural environment of the coast This work applies the concept of environmental choreography, where the performance is staged directly in the natural environment of the coast, not only moving the stage, but also making the coastal ecosystem, body interaction with tools (cothek and ringjing), as well as natural dynamics (tides and scorching sun) as an integral part of the choreography structure. The dancer's body becomes a bridge to narrate the human relationship with the environment. This work is performed by 6 female dancers which symbolizes the collectivity of female workers. With the accompaniment of Javanese gamelan pentatonic music in collaboration with dug-dug and hadrah instruments, creating distinctive Pandhalungan music characteristics. The result of this creation is expected to be able to show the narrative power of motion that merges with the original environmental space.
