PERJALANAN HIDUP PENDERITA KUSTA DALAM MENCARI PENERIMAAN DIRI

Abstrak
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana perjalanan hidup penderita kusta dalam mencari penerimaan diri. Penderita kusta sering mendapat stigma yang membuat mereka diasingkan dan terisolasi. Sumberglagah adalah sebuah dusun di Kabupaten Mojokerto dimana penderita berasal dari hampir semua Provinsi Jawa Timur yang hidup bersama untuk menghindari tanggapan negatif dari keluarga atau tetangga mereka. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian Kualitatif yang mempelajari dua perempuan penderita kusta yang telah sembuh di Sumberglagah. Partisipan dipilih dengan menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan depth interviews dan dianalisis menggunakan Narative Analysis untuk menentukan beberapa kategori sesuai dengan kronologi kehidupan partisipan. Hasil analisis data mengungkapkan dua kategori, yaitu kehidupan di daerah asal partisipan dan kehidupan di Sumberglagah. Secara umum, penelitian ini bisa disimpulkan bahwa kedua partisipan memiliki kemampuan untuk menghadapi masalah kehidupan, menganggap diri mereka berharga, tidak menganggap diri mereka aneh atau abnormal dan tidak mempunyai dugaan akan ditolak orang lain, tidak malu dengan kondisi mereka atau hanya memperhatikan diri mereka sendiri, dan mempunyai keberanian untuk bertanggung jawab terhadap perilakunya, dapat menerima pujian atau kritikan secara obyektif, tidak menyalahkan diri atas keterbatasan ataupun menyangkal kelebihan yang dimiliki. Namun pada partisipan yang kedua kurang mempunyai keyakinan akan kemampuannya untuk menghadapi masalah kehidupan dan kurang percaya diri dalam bertanggung jawab terhadap perilakunya.

Abstract
This research is aimed to identify are life history of leprosy sufferers in seeking self-acceptance. The leprosy sufferers are often stigmatized which makes the sufferers alienated and isolated. Sumberglagah is a village in Mojokerto district where the sufferers from almost all East Java region live together to avoid negative response from their family or neighbour. This was a Qualitative research to study two female leprosy sufferers who has recovered in Sumberglagah. Participants were selected using purposive sampling method. Data were collected using depth interviews and was analyzed using Narrative Analysis to determine some categories according to participant’s life chronology. The data analysis reveals two main categories, namely the participant’s life in their initial hometown and the life in Sumberglagah. Generally, it can be concluded that the participants have the ability to face life problems, consider themselves valuable, do not consider themselves as strange or abnormal, and have no expectation to be rejected by others, not shame with their condition or self-centered, and are have brave to take responsibility for their behaviors, receiving praise or criticism objectively, do not have self-blame or denials over their own limitations. However, the second participant has less conviction about her ability to face life problems and has less confidences to take responsibility for her behavior.
