GAMBARAN PERILAKU KONSUMSI PADA PEREMPUAN DEWASA AWAL, SEBUAH LIFE HISTORY

Abstract This research uses life history method. The purpose of this study is to describe consumer behavior of a woman named Sita who is in the transitional phase to the early adulthood. This research uses the qualitative approach. This research analyzes how Sita grows up to be an adult woman, the ways and sacrifices she has made to fulfill her consumption need, as well as the underlying meaning of Sita’s consumption activities. In order to get the desired data, the researcher employed in depth interview and observation about Sita’s life from the childhood up to now. The process of data analysis in this research design consists of sorting, categorizing, classifying, and filing the data into similar sub topics according to the determined topic. The research shows that the consumption behavior is manifested in Sita’s shopping behavior. Shopping for Sita is not only buying products, using, and spending them, but also to fulfill her existential need. The existential need Sita tries to fulfill is the need to be recognized and appreciated by her social circumstance. Keywords: consumption behavior, existential need, life history
Abstrak
Penelitian ini adalah suatu kajian life history yang bertujuan untuk mencari tahu gambaran perilaku konsumsi pada perempuan seorang yang bernama Sita yang saat ini sedang berada dalam fase transisi menuju masa dewasa awal. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif dengan tipe penelitian life history. Permasalahan yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini yaitu bagaimana Sita tumbuh dan berkembang menjadi wanita dewasa, cara serta pengorbanan apa saja yang ditempu Sita untuk memenuhi kegiatan konsumsinya, serta makna dibalik kegiatan konsumsi Sita tersebut. Untuk mendapatkan data yang diinginkan, peneliti melakukan wawancara secara mendalam serta observasi mengenai kehidupan Sita dari fase anak-anak sampai sekarang. Proses pengolahan data pada rancangan penelitian ini terdiri atas pemilihan, kategorisasi, klasifikasi dan pengarsipan data ke dalam sub topik yang sejenis sesuai tema yang ditetapkan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perilaku konsumsi termanifestasi pada kegemaran Sita dalam berbelanja. Berbelanja bagi sita bukan hanya sekedar membeli barang, memakai, kemudian menghabiskan barang tersebut, namun dibalik itu merupakan cara Sita untuk memenuhi kebutuhan eksistensialnya. Kebutuhan eksistensial yang Sita coba penuhi adalah kebutuhan untuk diakui dan dan dihargai oleh lingkungan sosialnya.
