Abstract

Pendidikan abad 21 menuntut seseorang untuk memiliki keterampilan menghubungkan pengetahuan dengan keterampilan literasi sains. Salah satu upaya untuk mencapai hal tersebut yaitu melalui pendekatan socio-scientific issues (SSI). Pembelajaran yang berkontribusi dalam SSI mengajarkan siswa untuk mampu menganalisis permasalahan, menilai kredibilitas sumber informasi yang digunakan, dan merumuskan solusi yang tepat, tak terkecuali dalam pembelajaran kimia. Dalam penelitian ini, dilakukan kajian literatur mengenai peran pendekatan SSI dalam meningkatkan scientific literacy dalam pembelajaran kimia. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan scientific literacy dalam pembelajaran kimia saat diterapkan pembelajaran berbasis SSI. Peningkatan skill scientific literacy membantu siswa dalam memecahkan permasalahan di lingkungan sekitar berbasis SSI. Hasil temuan ini diharapkan dapat berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan penerapan model pembelajaran berbasis pendekatan SSI dalam pembelajaran kimia, khususnya untuk meningkatkan scientific literasi siswa.
