Partisipasi Masyarakat dalam Kursus Bahasa Inggris Sebagai Upaya Mewujudkan Community-Based Education di Kampung Inggris Kecamatan Pare Kabupaten Kediri

Abstract

       Pendidikan yang semakin berkembang sesuai dengan peningkatan kualitas sumber daya manusia secara global menuntut konsumsi akan informasi dan komunikasi global tak terbendung lagi. Dalam mengkomunikasikan informasi tersebut diperlukan satu alat komunikasi yang disebut bahasa. Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa internasional, saat ini mau tidak mau harus dikuasai oleh masyarakat karena digunakan untuk berbagai kepentingan. Hal ini menjadi kesempatan bagi masyarakat di Kampung Inggris, dimana hampir seluruh masyarakat desa memiliki lembaga kursus bahasa Inggris sehingga menjadikan kampung Inggris sebagai destinasi bagi masyarakat dari seluruh Indonesia bahkan hingga mancanegara untuk belajar Bahasa Inggris. Peristiwa unik ini menjadikan Kampung Inggris sebagai potensi lokal dalam mengembangkan community-based education, yaitu pendidikan yang melibatkan masyarakat sehingga berprinsip pendidikan dari, oleh, dan untuk masyarakat. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat partisipasi masyarakat baik secara fisik maupun mental terkait dengan kegiatan Kursus Bahasa Inggris di Kampung Inggris sehingga dapat terbentuk Community-Based Education.

Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan Kuantitatif inferensial yang dilakukan di Kampung Inggris Kecamatan Pare Kabupaten Kediri. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah kuesioner, observasi dan dokumentasi. Selanjutnya menggunakan teknik analisis data berupa penerapan rumus product moment pada masing-masing variabel.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebesar 83,2% partisipasi masyarakat dalam Kursus Bahasa Inggris menyumbangkan terselenggaranya 72,19% Community-Based Education yang berjalan dengan baik. Hasil penghitungan uji korelasi diperoleh nilai 0,437 atau bernilai sedang yang berarti bahwa  kemungkinan terdapat faktor-faktor lain yang mempengaruhi terwujudnya community-based education. Nilai p-value terpercaya yaitu sebesar 0,008 dan bernilai positif, sehingga dapat dikatakan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara partisipasi masyarakat dengan terwujudnya Community-Based Education. Nilai positif menunjukkan semakin tinggi partisipasi masyarakat semakin baik terwujudnya community-based education. Suasana akademik di Kampung Inggris sudah sangat baik karena terlihat dari aktifitas-aktifitas pendidikan setiap harinya. Peneliti memberikan saran bahwa perlunya dilengkapi fasilitas umum yang akan semakin menunjang kegiatan tersebut yaitu perpustakaan umum yang dapat berbentuk perpustakaan desa, sanggar belajar, taman bacaan maupun perpustakaan keliling. Dengan begitu perwujudan Community-Based Education akan semakin lebih baik.

Abstract

The developing education which is in line with the quality increasment of human resources demand an unstoppable consumption of information and global communication. To communicate the information, language, which is a means of communication, is needed. English as an international language must be mastered by the community because it is used for many importances. Then, it becomes a chance for the community in Kampung Inggris (English Village) where almost all of the community has an English Course Institution. That makes Kampung Inggris become a destination by people across the Nation, even international destination. This unique fenomenon causes Kampung Inggris as a local potential to develop the community-based education. Community-based education is an education that is participated by all of the community so that the education is from, by and for the community. The purpose of this research was to observe how great the participation of the community in Kampung Inggris did in their English courses physically or mentally so that they can create the community-based education.

This research used inferential quantitative approach in Kampung Inggris Kecamatan Pare Kabupaten Kediri. The data collection technique that was used by the researcher were questionnaire, observation, and documentation. Then, this research used the formula of  product moment as the data analysis technique for each of the variables.

The result of this research showed that 83,2% of community participation in English Course had contributed about 72,19% in creating the community-based education.  The value of the correlation was 0,437, means that the strength of the relationship was medium. This value means that there were factors which influence the implementation of the community-based education. The p-value was significant, it was 0,008 and positive, so it could be said that there was a positive correlation between community participation and the implementation of community-based education; the higher the community participation is, the higher the mplementation of community-based education. Moreover, the academic atmosphere in Kampung Inggris was good enough, it was seen from their daily education activities. Furthermore, it is suggested that they need to add and complete some general facilities which can increase the quality of their activities, such as village library, learninng studio, reading room,  or peryphery library. Hopefully, those facilities may increase the quality of the implementation of community-based education.
