DEVELOPMENT OF MEASUREMENT COURSE QUESTIONS USING THE RASCH MODEL APPROACH

Higher education today demands students to possess critical and creative thinking skills to face the increasingly complex challenges in society. Therefore, it is essential to develop exam questions that assess conceptual understanding and evaluate students' ability to apply their knowledge to real-life situations. In the case of the Measuring Instruments course, for example, students are expected not only to understand basic theory but also to master practical measurement techniques. This research aims to develop question items that accurately assess both aspects, specifically in the context of the Measuring Instruments course in the Mechanical Engineering Education Program at UNESA. The development of the question items follows the ADDIE model, consisting of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The developed questions include multiple-choice and short-answer items that assess students' understanding of essential measurement using calipers and micrometers, totaling 20 items. The sample was selected using purposive sampling with 50 students from the S-1 Mechanical Engineering Education Program enrolled in the Measuring Instruments course. The research results show that the developed question items meet validity criteria through expert judgment validation, limited testing results, and reliability and can measure students' competencies according to curriculum requirements.
