Abstrak

Vocational education plays a strategic role in preparing work-ready human resources, not only technically skilled but also possessing employability skills that meet the needs of the industrial world. However, observations of students majoring in Automotive Engineering at SMK Negeri 1 Sidoarjo indicate that their practical skills and problem-solving abilities have not yet developed optimally. Learning tends to focus on following teacher instructions without involving students in the problem analysis process, resulting in underdevelopment of critical thinking and work skills. One contributing factor is the use of ineffective learning models and the lack of integration of employability skills into the learning process. Therefore, the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model was chosen as an approach to improve these skills. PBL encourages students to be active, think critically, collaborate, and relate concepts to real-world problems. Various studies have shown that PBL is effective in developing communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving, and other work skills. Thus, the implementation of PBL is expected to improve the employability skills of vocational high school students, making them better prepared to face the demands of the workforce.
