IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO:
GENDER BIAS IN TIKTOK’S DISCOURSE ON INFIDELITY IN INDONESIA
Keywords:
Pelakor, Pebinor, gender biasAbstract
Abstract
This study investigates how the words pelakor and pebinor are constructed in society through TikTok, a short-video format social media platform. The data were collected from 32 TikTok captions using hashtag pelakor and pebinor which have more than 10,000 likes from April 2024 to April 2025. Using Feminist Critical Discourse Analysis (FCDA) combined with Faiclough’s Three-Dimensional model, this study found that there is strong gendered bias in the society where women labelled as pelakor are heavily blamed, negatively labelled, and framed as active agents in the society. Meanwhile, men who are labelled as pebinor receive unproportional attention where they are just discussed in a lighter way and in a humorous way. This indicates the rooted gendered bias in Indonesian society.
