DEVELOPMENT OF A DIGITAL COMIC LEARNING MEDIA USING IBIS PAINT X TO FACILITATE GERMAN VOCABULARY ACQUISITION ON THE THEME SCHULE AT THE A1 LEVEL FOR ELEVENTH-GRADE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery as the foundation of reading skills at the A1 level requires visual-based learning
media aligned with multimedia learning principles and the characteristics of digital native students. This
study aims to develop digital comic media using the Ibis Paint X application to train German vocabulary
on the theme of Schule at the A1 level and to determine its feasibility for eleventh-grade senior high
school students. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model,
simplified into three stages: Define, Design, and Develop. The Define stage encompassed needs
analysis, curriculum analysis, and student characteristics analysis. The Design stage involved
developing the storyline, compiling vocabulary and Redemittel, and creating the visual design of the
digital comic. The Develop stage was conducted through validation by material and media experts using
a Likert-scale validation sheet analyzed descriptively through quantitative and qualitative approaches.
The results indicated feasibility percentages of 91% from the material expert and 94% from the media
expert, both categorized as highly feasible. This media integrates contextual illustrations and dialogues
themed around Schule, enabling students to comprehend vocabulary in a more engaging and
communicative manner while simultaneously supporting the development of German reading skills at
the A1 level.
