An Analysis of Märchen on the Sloeful.com Website as Learning Materials for Developing Reading Skills of Twelfth-Grade Senior High School Students in the Second Semester

Abstract

Reading instruction in German under the Merdeka Curriculum Phase F requires teaching materials that are relevant, engaging, and consistent with the intended learning outcomes. One potential digital learning resource is the collection of Märchen (fairy tales) available on the sloeful.com website. Nevertheless, the suitability and feasibility of these materials as resources for developing reading skills have not yet been systematically examined. This study aims to identify the suitability of the Märchen materials provided on sloeful.com with the Merdeka Curriculum and to evaluate their feasibility as instructional materials for teaching German reading skills to twelfth-grade senior high school students in the second semester. A qualitative approach employing content analysis was adopted in this research. The data consisted of eight Märchen texts taken from the German Fairy Tales feature on the sloeful.com website. Data collection was conducted through a literature review and validation by a subject-matter expert. The analysis referred to Learning Outcomes (CP), Learning Objectives (TP), the Learning Objective Flow (ATP), Redemittel, sentence structures, vocabulary (Wortschatz), and the German Subject Matter Map. The findings revealed that all eight Märchen materials achieved a suitability score of 97.3%, placing them in the highly suitable category because they fulfilled the criteria related to CP, TP, ATP, Redemittel, sentence structures, and vocabulary. Furthermore, the materials were considered feasible based on the aspects of content, language, presentation, and graphical design. Therefore, the Märchen materials available on sloeful.com can be used as an alternative digital teaching resource for German reading instruction for twelfth-grade senior high school students in the second semester.
