THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING THE ZEP QUIZ GAME PLATFORM ON THE GERMAN READING SKILLS OF 11TH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMAN 1 WARU

Abstract

Based on observations from an interview with German language teacher at SMAN 1 Waru, it was noted that students’ German reading skills remain relatively low. This is due to the difficulties students face in understanding the content of German reading materials, stemming from a lack of mastery of language structure and vocabulary. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using the Zep Quiz game as a medium for improving German reading skills. This study employs a quantitative method using a quasi-experimental approach with a nonequivalent groups pretest-posttest design. The results show that the average pretest-posttest scores for the experimental class were higher than those of the control class. The N-gain test results indicate a percentage score of 56.54% for the experimental class, which falls into the moderate category, while the control class showed an average N-gain score of -19.39, falling into the low category. The use of the Zep Quiz as a learning medium is quite effective in improving reading skills. The hypothesis test yielded an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000, which is less than 0.05. Thus, H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. This indicates that there is a significant difference in the use of the Zep Quiz game medium on the improvement of students’ German reading skills.
