CONSUMER LEGAL AWARENESS REGARDING THE HALAL LABEL OF KEDIRI FOOD SOUVENIRS

Abstract

Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Guaranteed Halal Products stipulates that food products traded in Indonesia must be halal certified, so business actors should put a halal label on packages that have been certified halal. In addition, Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection Article 4 letter states that consumers have the right to convenience, security, and safety in consuming food because food that has been tested and is safe for consumption, therefore halal labels in food are very important, especially for Muslim consumer. The existence of this research has the aim of analyzing consumer legal awareness regarding the halal label for Kediri special souvenirs, namely Gethuk Pisang and understanding what factors influence consumers not to pay attention to the label halal on Gethuk Pisang for Kediri typical souvenirs. This study uses an empirical juridical research method by conducting research at Jalan Yos Sudarso Kediri. Data collection techniques in this study are through observation, interviews, and documentation. This study shows that the level of consumer legal awareness regarding the halal label of Gethuk Pisang Kediri souvenirs could be much higher. Consumer legal awareness of the halal label is influenced by several things, namely consumers’ lack of interest in reading, consumer education factors, age, gender, religion, and the lack of consumer getting socialization regarding the importance of halal labels.
