Abstract

Abstract

In this paper, we present a result from an experiment about geopolymer mortar curing temperature. The test object is mortar cubes with dimension 5 × 5 × 5 cm3 made from a mixture of sand, fly ash, water, and alkali activator. Class C fly ash was used is contain more than 10% of calcium. The alkali activator is made from sodium hydroxide with two varieties of molarity concentration (8 M and 10 M) and sodium silicate (SS/SH=1,5). The test objects were placed into the oven for 6 hours and the heating temperature was set to 40ºC, 50ºC, 60ºC, and 80ºC.

Aims of this research are to find the best curing temperature which obtains the maximum compressive strength of geopolymer mortar. The obtained result based on compressive strength test shows that higher curing temperature gives better compressive strength. In 28th day age, 8 M mortar with 80ºC heating obtained 49,73 MPa and 10 M mortar with same heating temperature obtained 60,98 MPa. This results also proving that higher molarity gives better compressive strength for geopolymer mortar
