Journal Focus and Scope
Retain: Journal of Research in English Language Teaching is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal officially maintained, published, and owned by English Education Program, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Unesa, Indonesia. The journal is dedicated to disseminating original, empirically grounded, and theoretically informed research within the field of English Language Teaching (ELT) and related disciplines.
Retain serves as a scholarly platform for researchers, educators, and practitioners to share significant contributions that advance the theory and practice of English language education at local, national, and international levels. The journal publishes three issues per year in February, June, and October.
Thematic Scope
RETAIN invites research-based manuscripts that explore, examine, or critically engage with the following themes and topics, though the list is not exhaustive:
- English teaching and learning in general, including pedagogical approaches, instructional strategies, and classroom practices
- English for Specific Purposes (ESP), including English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and English for Occupational Purposes (EOP)
- The integration and utilisation of state-of-the-art or cutting-edge technology in language teaching and learning
- Language assessment and testing, including the design, development, and validation of assessment instruments
- Curriculum design, development, and implementation within English language education programmes
- Materials development and evaluation for English language learning contexts
- Teacher education and professional development in English language teaching
- Sociolinguistic and discourse-analytic perspectives relevant to English language education
- Learner psychology, motivation, and identity in the context of English language learning
Accepted Research Methodology
RETAIN accepts research-based manuscripts employing a range of methodological approaches, including: quantitative research, qualitative research, mixed-method research, design and development research, and classroom action research. All submitted manuscripts must make a clear and substantive contribution to the existing body of knowledge in English Language Teaching.
