Artificial Intelligence Policy

Jurnal Teknik Elektro (JTE) recognizes the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in scientific research and academic publishing. The journal supports the responsible use of AI tools to improve research efficiency, language quality, and manuscript preparation while maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, transparency, originality, and scientific accountability.
This policy applies to all authors, reviewers, and editors involved in the journal's submission, peer review, and publication processes.

1. General Principles
AI-assisted technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs), generative AI systems, AI-based writing assistants, and AI-powered research tools, may be used to support scholarly activities. However, AI must not replace human intellectual contributions, critical reasoning, scientific judgment, or professional responsibility.
All individuals involved in the publication process must ensure that AI-assisted content is accurate, reliable, ethically produced, and appropriately disclosed. The use of AI must comply with applicable research integrity standards, publication ethics principles, and intellectual property regulations.

2. Permitted Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI-assisted technologies for legitimate purposes, including but not limited to:
1. Grammar correction, spelling checks, language editing, and improvements in readability.
2. Translation and academic language refinement.
3. Assistance with manuscript organization, structure, and formatting.
4. Coding assistance, debugging, and computational support.
5. Data processing, statistical analysis, and visualization, provided that the methods and results are independently verified.
6. Literature discovery and reference organization, provided that all cited sources are independently checked and verified.
The use of AI must remain under the direct supervision and control of the authors. AI-generated or AI-assisted content must be critically reviewed, verified, and revised before manuscript submission.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and scientific integrity of all content included in their submitted manuscripts, regardless of whether AI-assisted technologies have been used.

3. Prohibited Use of AI
The following practices are strictly prohibited:
1. Generating, fabricating, falsifying, or manipulating research data, experimental results, or statistical findings.
2. Creating fictitious references, citations, datasets, or research evidence.
3. Presenting AI-generated scientific claims, interpretations, or conclusions without appropriate verification.
4. Using AI to manipulate images, graphs, figures, or experimental results in a misleading manner.
5. Generating substantial scientific content without meaningful intellectual contribution, critical evaluation, and verification by the authors.
6. Using AI-generated content that violates copyright, intellectual property rights, or publication ethics.
7. Concealing substantial AI involvement in the research or manuscript preparation process when disclosure is required.
Any use of AI that compromises the originality, reliability, validity, or scientific integrity of a manuscript may be considered a violation of research and publication ethics.

4. AI Authorship
AI tools, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, and other generative AI systems, must not be listed as authors or co-authors of submitted manuscripts.
AI systems do not meet the criteria for authorship because they cannot assume responsibility for scientific accuracy, research integrity, conflicts of interest, or the ethical and legal obligations associated with scholarly publication.
Authorship must be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the research and who are capable of taking responsibility for the published work.

5. Mandatory Disclosure of AI Use
Authors who use AI-assisted technologies in conducting research or preparing their manuscripts must disclose such use transparently and accurately.
The disclosure should identify the following information:
1. The name of the AI tool or technology used.
2. The purpose for which the AI tool was used.
3. The specific stage or component of the research or manuscript preparation in which AI assistance was involved.
AI assistance related to writing, translation, or language editing should be disclosed in a dedicated Declaration of AI Use section before the References section.
When AI tools are used for data collection, computational analysis, methodology development, or figure generation, the relevant procedures must also be clearly described in the Methods section, where applicable, to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
Example of an AI Disclosure Statement:
"The authors acknowledge the use of ChatGPT (OpenAI) to assist with language editing, grammatical correction, and improvements in manuscript readability. All AI-assisted content was carefully reviewed, verified, and revised by the authors. The authors take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript."
If no AI-assisted technologies were used, authors may include the following statement:
"The authors declare that no generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools were used in the preparation of this manuscript."

6. AI-Generated Images, Figures, and Data
The use of AI-assisted technologies to create or modify scientific images, figures, diagrams, and other visual materials must be clearly disclosed.
AI-generated illustrations may be considered when they serve a legitimate scientific or explanatory purpose, are appropriately identified, and comply with applicable copyright and intellectual property requirements.
However, AI must not be used to fabricate experimental evidence, alter measurement results, or manipulate research images in ways that misrepresent the original findings.
Authors must ensure that all figures, tables, images, and other visual materials accurately represent the underlying data and comply with applicable research integrity and publication ethics requirements.

7. AI Use in Peer Review
Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality, impartiality, independence, and integrity of the peer review process.
Reviewers are prohibited from uploading submitted manuscripts, unpublished research data, or confidential editorial materials to publicly accessible AI platforms or other AI systems where confidentiality cannot be assured, unless prior authorization has been obtained from the Editorial Office and any necessary permissions have been secured.
AI tools must not replace independent scientific evaluation, critical assessment, or professional judgment during the peer review process.
Any authorized use of AI-assisted technologies during peer review must be disclosed to the Editorial Office.
Reviewers remain fully responsible for the accuracy, fairness, confidentiality, and quality of their review reports.

8. AI Use by Editors
Editors may use AI-assisted technologies to support administrative and editorial activities, provided that manuscript confidentiality, data protection, transparency, and editorial independence are maintained.
AI-generated recommendations or assessments must not serve as the sole basis for manuscript acceptance, rejection, or other editorial decisions.
All final editorial decisions must be made by qualified human editors based on scientific merit, reviewer assessments, the journal's scope, and applicable publication ethics principles.

9. AI Detection and Editorial Assessment
Jurnal Teknik Elektro reserves the right to use appropriate screening tools, including plagiarism detection systems and AI-content assessment technologies, as part of its editorial evaluation.
However, AI-detection results will not be treated as conclusive evidence of research or publication misconduct.
Any concerns regarding inappropriate or undisclosed AI use will be evaluated through editorial assessment, examination of relevant evidence, and, where appropriate, requests for clarification from the authors.
Authors may be requested to provide additional information regarding their research methods, original data, manuscript preparation process, or use of AI-assisted technologies.

10. Violations and Editorial Actions
Failure to comply with this AI Policy may result in appropriate editorial action, depending on the nature and severity of the violation.
Such actions may include:
1. Requests for clarification or additional disclosure.
2. Mandatory manuscript revision or correction.
3. Rejection of the manuscript.
4. Withdrawal of the manuscript from the editorial process in accordance with the journal's withdrawal policy.
5. Correction or retraction of a published article, where appropriate.
6. Temporary restrictions on future manuscript submissions in cases of serious or repeated publication ethics violations.
Serious cases involving deliberate fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or intentional concealment of unethical AI use may result in a submission restriction of up to five (5) years, subject to an appropriate editorial investigation and a fair opportunity for the authors to respond.
All decisions will be made by the Editor-in-Chief and/or the Editorial Board in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and applicable procedures.

11. Author Responsibility
The use of AI-assisted technologies does not reduce, transfer, or replace the responsibilities of authors.
By submitting a manuscript to Jurnal Teknik Elektro, all authors confirm that they have carefully reviewed the manuscript, independently verified the accuracy of its content and references, and ensured compliance with this AI Policy.
Authors remain fully responsible for the scientific validity, originality, ethical compliance, accuracy, and integrity of their submitted and published work, including all content generated or assisted by AI technologies.
