Abstract

This study aims to analyze a series of traditional wedding events for the Toba Batak community in Kediri 1990‒2000 and to analyze the dynamics in the traditional wedding traditions of the Toba Batak community in Kediri 1990‒2000. This research method uses historical research methods. The first stage, heuristics, is the collection of various data or information through interviews with the Raja Adat / Raja Hata marriage and the Toba Batak community in Kediri and through books or documentation related to the research title, namely the Toba Batak wedding in Kediri. The second stage, namely criticism. The sources obtained, especially the results of direct interviews with the King and the Toba Batak Punguan Advisor in Kediri, were convinced that they were in accordance with the topic and period of the study. Based on the research that has been done, the results show that the traditional wedding procession of the Toba Batak community in Kediri City 1990‒2000 consists of several series or stages. These stages include marhori-hori dinging (exploration of wedding plans), patua hata (proposing or proposing to a woman), martumpol / mangido ting-ting (premarital), ria raja (Paranak talks about a wedding ceremony), tonngo raja (Parboru talks about a wedding ceremony), patiur mata ni nual (ask for the blessing of Tulang-Nantulang), marsibuha-buhai (traditional ceremony to pick up the bride), pamasu-masuon (blessing), marujuk (traditional Batak marriage blessings), paulahune (bridal departure), marsihol-sihol (longing for bride), and stepping up the stairs (Parboru visiting Besan). Each stage is part of a series of traditional traditions passed down through the Toba Batak ancestors. The Toba Batak wedding tradition in Kediri City is carried out by the Toba Batak people who have migrated to Kediri City. The Batak Toba people in Kediri City still follow the wedding procession of their ancestors. There are slight changes, but in general the prevailing customary procedures are still being carried out and implemented.
