ESCOMPTOBANK NV TAHUN 1955-1958

Abstract

Escomptobank NV. is a Dutch trading bank which opened a branch office in Indonesia. Initially, it only opened branches in the Netherlands and Batavia, but along with the development of the Indonesian economy, the bank opened branches in various cities in Indonesia such as Surabaya, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Medan. Escomptobank NV's main activity is notes and discounts on securities. Escomptobank NV. is a bank that was nationalized to become a bank owned by Indonesia. In the city of Surabaya Escomptobank NV. became one of the banks that helped in the economic development of the city of Surabaya. The formulation of the problem in this study; (1) how was the condition of the Indonesian economy in 1955-1957 (2) how was the process of changing Escomptobank NV to PT Escomptobank whose status was a limited liability company in 1958. Heuristic historical research method (collection of sources). Heuristics were obtained by researchers at ANRI, Bank Mandiri Museum in Jakarta and Surabaya, Surabaya City Library Archives Agency, Library Service. After the issuance of the basic law on Bank Indonesia in 1953, Bank Indonesia as an institution was very interested in the issuance of provisions on bank supervision to conduct research and study on similar provisions that apply in various countries, especially the Netherlands. With the issuance of PP No.1 of 1955, national private banks that have existed within three months are required to apply for a business license to the minister of finance through Bank Indonesia. Based on the analysis of existing sources, after the Dutch KMB negotiations recognized Indonesia's independence, but the state had to pay the Dutch debt, foreign companies continued to operate in Indonesia, making the economy unstable. In an effort to stabilize the Indonesian economy as a new country and escape foreign influence, the government nationalized foreign companies still operating in Indonesia, including Escomptobank NV.
