Abstract

Local art is now starting to be pushed by the influence of foreign cultures. This phenomenon, if left unchecked, will lead to a decline in local artistic values. To overcome this, it is necessary to preserve local arts, especially in the art of dance by forming a container in the form of a dance studio. Lung Ayu Dance Studio is a dance studio that continues to preserve traditional dance arts amid the entry of foreign cultures into Indonesia. Research on the development of dance studios in Jombang is still minimal, so from this background this research was carried out. This study aims to analyze (1) how the development of the Lung Ayu dance studio in Jombang in 2005-2015, (2) how the contribution of the Lung Ayu dance studio in preserving traditional dance art in Jombang in 2005-2015. This study uses a historical research method which consists of four stages, including: (1) Heuristics, is a procedure for finding and finding various sources needed in historical research; (2) Source criticism, is a process of testing the credibility and authenticity of the source, as well as the relevance of a historical source; (3) interpretation or interpretation, namely the stage of finding the relationship between facts by analyzing and interpreting so as to obtain a systematic flow; (4) Historiography, is the stage of writing research results arranged in chronological order and analysis. The results obtained indicate that the Lung Ayu Dance Studio in Jombang was founded by Mr. Dian Sukarno and his wife Mrs. Lukiati on September 23, 2005. This studio was established as a bright spot for the restlessness of the artists due to the lack of dancing resources in Jombang, due to the condition of the dance studio. in Jombang had a vacuum for approximately ten years. From 2005-2015, this studio experienced developments in the aspect of the training ground, the number of members (dance students), as well as creative activities and performances. The contribution of the Lung Ayu Dance Studio in preserving the art of dance in Jombang is to maintain the existence of traditional dance including concept of utilization, development, and dissemination to the Jombang community through dance education activities, dance training, and performances internally and externally.
