Abstract

Metacognitive skills are the focus of attention in education. However, the observations in class XI of SMA Negeri 12 Surabaya showed that the teacher's lack of attention in introducing metacognitive terms in learning made students not understand how to use their metacognitive abilities to solve the problems at hand. Then when students are faced with a problem, they only try to solve it as best they can without thinking about the level of truth in solving the problem. So it is necessary to provide a strategy for solving these problems by applying problem based learning and learning interests. This study aims to determine the effect and magnitude of the influence of the problem based learning and interest in learning on metacognitive skills in history subjects in class XI IPA 4 SMA Negeri 12 Surabaya. The research design used was Pre-Experimental Design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sampling technique used non-probability sampling with purposive sampling. Hypothesis testing in this study uses associative hypothesis testing with two hypothesis criteria, namely (1) Ho = There is no positive effect of problem based learning and interest in learning on metacognitive skills; (2) Ha = There is a positive effect of problem based learning and interest in learning on metacognitive skills. Data analysis used multiple linear regression, namely Y= 212.561 + 0.126 + 0.161. Testing the relationship between variables X1 and X2 to Y, a product moment which aims to obtain the results of Rcount (0.616) and (0.684) > Rtable 0.329. Based on the product moment, the correlation coefficient value is in a STRONG category. The magnitude of the effect can be known based on the RSquare in the summary table with a value of 0.562 or 56.2% and the remaining 0.438 or 43.8% are factors not examined in this study. Thus, it can be concluded that problem based learning and interest in learning have a positive and significant effect on metacognitive skills in history learning in class XI IPA 4 SMA Negeri 12 Surabaya by 56.2%.
