Abstract

The traditional Penthul Melikan dance is a typical dance from the Melikan area, Tempuran, Paron Ngawi, East Java. This dance was born as an expression of gratitude for the people of Melikan Combat for the completion of the construction of the bridge in the village. over time the function of the traditional Penthul Melikan dance began to shift which was originally used as a sacred and religious ritual to be limited to entertainment only. This is none other than because the Penthul Melikan dance has begun to fade in its existence in society so that the times have demanded that the Penthul Melian dance be adaptively developed so that it will not be eroded and forgotten. because essentially the traditional Penthul Melikan dance is a symbol of the people of the village of Tempuran which must be maintained and preserved at all times. The preservation of the traditional Penthul Melikan dance is carried out by all elements of the community from the village community, art observers, and the Ngawi districtgovernment. The Ngawi district government under the leadership of the regent Harsono made a breakthrough by carrying out cultural festivals and the construction of the Laras Madyo dance studio to develop and preserve the Penthul Melikan dance in the Melikan Paron Hamlet, Ngawi Regency.
