Abstract

Students' understanding of learning materials is very important in the continuity of learning. Students are expected to be able to understand the lesson very well. History is often referred to as a difficult subject to understand because it is related to the past. Many students still do not understand when the teacher gives direct questions after giving a history lesson. Teachers play an important role in a teaching and learning process. The results of the security carried out at SMA Negeri 21 Surabaya, some students were still passive when learning and did not understand the lesson, although the teacher played an active role in explaining, but many students did not pay attention to learning. This can be influenced by online learning that is carried out remotely, as well as teachers' teaching methods that are less effective in delivering lessons. The lack of response from students ultimately demands to use a more effective method by using questions made by the teacher. Students still tend not to understand and are confused by the questions asked by the teacher. The following research discusses, (1) How many students have not mastered factual knowledge on the material of the Hindu-Buddhist and Islamic Kingdoms in Indonesia?; (2) How many students do not understand the concepts in learning material about the Hindu-Buddhist and Islamic Kingdoms in Indonesia?; (3) How many students have misconceptions about the material about the Hindu-Buddhist and Islamic Kingdoms in Indonesia?. Through these observations, the researchers wanted to measure students' understanding using the CRI method. The CRI research instrument uses multiple choice questions with a vulnerable scale of 0-5 given to each answer. In addition, the researchers used questionnaires, interviews, and student observations. The results obtained from the use of the CRI method in measuring students' understanding are that students still experience misconceptions about the material of the Hindu-Buddhist Kingdom and Islam. The misconceptions experienced by students of class XI IPS 2 in the subject of the Hindu-Buddhist Kingdom are 41% and in the material of the Islamic Kingdom, students have misconceptions of 37%. Students who experience misconceptions are caused by a wrong understanding of the concept. This is reinforced by the results of the questionnaire which showed 46% of students answered neutrally. Students still look doubtful about the choice of the questionnaire. Interviews conducted resulted in students still having difficulty in distinguishing one event from another
