TELAGA SARANGAN: PARIWISATA ERA KOLONIAL (1938-1940)

Abstract

Tourism is one of the activities that have been carried out by humans for a long time. Indonesian tourism
activities cannot be separated from government programs, both during the Dutch East Indies government and the
Indonesian government itself which regulates it. At the end of the 19th century, tourism affairs in the Dutch East Indies
had only reached an early stage where tourism activities were only carried out by a limited number of people, such as
Dutch East Indies government officials, private company owners, employees of Dutch East Indies companies or
indigenous nobles. The 20 Dutch East Indies government officially participated in tourism activities by establishing a
tourism association called Vereeniging Toeristenverkeer (VTV), in Batavia 13 April 1908. The establishment of VTV was
aimed at developing tourism in the Dutch East Indies. Sarangan from 1938 until the 2nd world war in 1940. Therefore,
the problem formulation of this research is as follows: (1) How was the development of Sarangan Lake tourism in the
colonial era (1938-1940)? (2) How was the development of tourists in Sarangan Lake in the colonial era (1938-1940)?
(3) What is the economic and social impact on the surrounding community with the Sarangan Lake tourism (1938-1940)?
This study uses four stages of the historical research method, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and
historiography. The data in this study were obtained from archival sources, contemporary newspapers and magazines,
photos, and etc. This study explains how the development of Sarangan Lake tourism from 1938 until the 2nd world war
had an impact on Sarangan Lake tourism.
