Abstract

Students' low literacy skills are still a problem from the past to the present. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of proving the causal relationship between the K-W-L (Know, Want, and Learn) Reading Method and the Literacy Skills of XI Social Studies Class Students at SMA Negeri 1 Taman. The research used the Quasi Experiment method with Nonequivalent Control Group Design as the research design. Data collection in this study was carried out using a questionnaire and also a written test in the form of a description test. The results showed that the application of the KWL reading method had a positive effect on improving students' literacy skills. This is indicated by the average posttest score in the experimental class higher than the average posttest score of the control class. In the experimental class, the average posttest score was 82 while in the control class the average posttest score was 70,86. Based on data analysis using the independent t-test formula, the significance value is 0.000 <0.05, which means H0 is rejected. The two-tailed curve also shows that the calculated t value of -10.280 falls in the H0 rejection area. Thus, it can be concluded that there is an effect of the application of the K-W-L (Know, Want, and Learn) reading method on the literacy skills of students in class XI IPS SMA Negeri 1 Taman.
