Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the abilities that students must have to face life in the 21st century. Based on interviews,
it was found that the critical thinking skills of Pilangkenceng State High School students are still low in terms of student
scores in daily tests. Therefore, treatment is needed to stimulate the achievement of critical thinking in history subjects, one
of which is by applying a problem-based learning model. This study aims to determine the influence and magnitude of the
influence of the problem based learning model on students' critical thinking skills in history learning in class XI IPS 1 at SMA
Negeri Pilangkenceng, Madiun. This research was carried out in the even semester of 2022/2023. This research is a
quantitative study using the experimental method of the one-shot case study design type. The sample used was XI IPS 1 using
a nonprobability sampling technique with purposive sampling. The data collection technique uses the observation method of
learning implementation, giving written tests to measure students' critical thinking skills and students' responses to the
application of problem-based learning and learning models. The data analysis technique uses a simple linear regression te.The results of the study are as follows: (1). Implementation of learning with a problem based learning model of 90% with a
very good category. (2) The results of the critical thinking skills test obtained an average percentage of 75% in the good
category. (3) Student responses to the problem based learning model show 76% in the good category. Based on the results of
simple linear regression analysis, it is known that the sig value is <00.1 which is smaller than the sig level of 0.05 and
comparing the value of Tcount>Ttable with a value of 6,641>2,048 means that there is a relationship between the two
variables, so Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. Ha is accepted with a product moment correlation coefficient of 0.782 which
is classified as strong with a significance level of <.001, so the relationship between the two variables is strong. In the
summary model R Square shows 0.612, this shows that variable X (problem based learning model) has an effect of 61.2% on
variable Y (critical thinking skills) with the remaining 38.8% coming from variables not examined in this study in this study.
this is the learning motivation of students in learning history that is owned by each individual.
