Abstract

Democratic character education is one of the characters that needs to be instilled in educational institutions in accordance with a study by the Research and Development Center for the Curriculum Center of the Ministry of National Education. Schools as formal educational institutions have a very important role in forming and developing student character. Based on interviews, data was obtained that in history learning, teachers often invite discussions with students. Each group consists of several students to discuss the material discussed. Through this discussion, students are expected to be able to make and provide the best decisions. However, in these discussions sometimes there are students who argue because there are still students who have not implemented democratic characters, one of which is accepting other people's opinions. Apart from that, there are also some students who are still reluctant to voice their opinions because they are embarrassed or afraid of being wrong. Apart from that, when learning was taking place there were still students who were busy and even engrossed in themselves when the teacher gave the material, at that time the teacher also reprimanded the students who lacked discipline. Therefore, teachers must apply and develop democratic character when learning takes place. This research aims to describe the attitudes and values of students' democratic character and find out the obstacles teachers face when implementing democratic character through history subjects.
