EKSISTENSI TARI MAYANG RONTEK DI KABUPATEN MOJOKERTO TAHUN 1986-2019

Abstract

The Mayang Rontek dance is one of the typical dances of Mojokerto Regency. This dance is a form of revitalization
of the Bedhol Manten Mojoputri procession. The Mayang Rontek dance was originally a complement to the traditional
Mojoputri bridal procession. As time went by, the function of the Mayang Rontek Dance began to shift because the Bedhol
Manten Mojoputri tradition was no longer used so that to continue to maintain its existence amidst the times, the function
of the Mayang Rontek Dance began to shift as a means of entertainment, performance and education. The Mayang Rontek
dance is a transformation of the Mojoputri bridal procession which reflects the cultural characteristics of the Majapahit
era which must be preserved. This research uses a historical method consisting of heuristics, by searching for sources
using interviews, observation and documentation. The next stage is source criticism, interpretation and historiography.
The results of research and discussion show that the existence of the Mayang Rontek Dance can still be found today, but
it has experienced a shift in function. There are several factors that influence the existence of the Mayang Rontek Dance,
namely external and internal factors. Internal factors are caused by the awareness and interest of the community,
especially artists and the local government, to preserve the art of Mayang Rontek Dance and external factors are caused
by developments over time and technological advances which have given birth to new, more practical and modern arts.
