Abstract

The low level of critical thinking ability of students, especially in history subjects, is a hindrance to achieving
planned learning goals. Based on the results of observations that have been carried out, it shows that history learning at
SMA Negeri 2 Trenggalek still prioritizes the role of teachers (teacher centered learning), thus making learning activities
seem boring. In addition, the low desire of students to make changes is still relatively low, so it can slow down in increasing
critical thinking ability. Another problem is that the learning materials presented are rarely associated with real
conditions in students' lives, resulting in low independence in solving problems. To solve this problem, students need
interesting learning innovation. One of the learning innovations that can improve students' critical thinking abilities is
the application of transformative learning with contextual approaches and problem based learning models. In this study,
Quasi Experimental Design with the Nonequivalent Control Group Design form a pre-test and a post-test, thus requiring
two classes as samples, the XI-I class as an experiment class and the XI-G class as a control class. The data analysis
techniques used in this study are multiple linear regression tests, partial correlation tests, and F tests. The results of
multiple linear regression tests show that the significance level of variable X1 is 0.000 with a thitung of 7.076 and a table
of 2.034 or can be expressed with 0.000 < 0.05 and 7.076 > 2.034, So the decision that can be taken is transformative
learning with a contextual approach (X1) influences students' critical thinking abilities (Y). Whereas the significance level
of the X2 variable is 0.001 with a thitung of 3.577 and a table of 2.034 or can be expressed with 0.001 < 0.05 and 3.577
> 2.034, so the decision that can be taken is the problem based learning (X2) model affects critical thinking ability (Y).
Subsequently, the partial correlation test results showed that the count was 0.813 and the table was 0.329 or 0.813 >
0.329 with a probability level of 0.000 < 0.05. Thus it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between
transformative learning variables and contextual approach (X1) with problem model based learning variables (X2), and
transformative learning variables with contextual approach (X1) affect problem based learning (X2) model variables.
And the last one is test F, based on test results F shows a count value of 153.664 and a ftabel of 4.13, while the significance
level is 0.000, so it can be stated that the significance level is 0.000 < 0.05 and the count value is 153.664 > ftabel 4.139.
Thus it can be concluded that the probability level is less than 0.05 and the factual value is greater than the phtable, and
the probability level is less than 0.05 and the factual value is greater than the phtable. which can then be stated that
simultaneously or together variables of transformative learning with contextual approaches (X1) and problem based
learning (X2) models affect critical thinking (Y), It means that there is an effect of transformative learning with a
contextual approach and a problem based learning model on the critical thinking abilities of Grade XI students on history
studies at SMA Negeri 2 Trenggalek.
